The stainless steel 304 is a chromium nickel alloy that has 18% chromium and 8% nickel in its composition. The material has some extent of general corrosion resistance and has good strength. The operating temperature range can be up to 899 degrees Celsius without scaling for continuous operation. The exhaust lines work under temperatures ranging from 300 degrees Celsius to 1200 degrees. Although it seems like the 304 material can be used for some of the exhaust pipes, the major problem is the oxidation of the pipes at a high temperature. The 304 pipes are not oxidation resistant and can immediately be oxidized under high temperatures. So the 304 seamless pipes can be used for exhaust pipes but oxidation is expected.
